Remarks: | The first flight of the Me-163A took place from Ausburg on September 1, 1941. On October 2, 1941 a Me-163A flown by Heini Dietmar, reached 1.003 km/h becoming the first pilot in the world to break the magic mark of 1.000 km/h. The Me-163A's engine proved to be too unreliable so another engine was needed. This resulted in the Me-163B, that flew for the first time on June 1, 1943. The Komet was originally built by Josef Kurz as a glider replica of the Me-163B. Kurz himself was in training for Komet service, but the end of the war prevented him from flying the real thing. Construction was started in 1994, and registered as D-ESJK the first flight was made on June 18, 1996. In 2000, Kurz' replica was sold to EADS in a non-airworthy condition. EADS performed an extensive overhaul and modifications from 2004 to 2006 and the first flight, re-registered as D-1636, was made in July 2006. source: http://www.touchdown-aviation.com / http://robdebie.home.xs4all.nl/me163/kurz.htm |

Remarks: | The last Do 24 was the Do 24TT (later known as the Do ATT), the result of Dornier's desire to test the high seas capability of an amphibious, economical aircraft. Production began in 1979 and was completed in 1983, the Do ATT was fitted with an advanced technology wing cut from a single piece of aluminum spar to simplify production efforts with improved PT6A-45Bs. It took to the skies on April 25, 1983 and was later retired to the Deutsches Museum in Germany. Iren Dornier, grandson of Claude Dornier, then removed the aircraft from the museum and brought it to the Philippines in 2003. It was retrofitted and restored in good working condition. It also underwent a series of rigorous test flights both on land and water and has received its airworthiness from the Philippine Aviation Authority (ATO). The certification became the GO SIGNAL of the aircraft to push through with the planned World Tour which jumpstarted on February of 2004. http://do-24.com/index.php?home ILA 2006 |
